gEDA for MS-Windows

The gEDA suite was developed for Linux. Still, it is possible to run its applications on MS-Windows. After significant effort by a number of programmers, the windows version of the major gEDA tools are in pretty good shape. DJ Delorie regularily compiles windows binaries of the tools and offers them for download. Klaus Zipfel took a current version of the binaries and used Inno-Setup to assemble an installer for MS-Windows:

The installer contains: * gaf (“gschem and friends”, i.e. gschem, gnetlist, gerbv, gattrib,…) * pcb (the layout GUI) * ghostscript (to facilitate PDF export) * symbol and footprint libraries of the ElektronIQ * a set of config files that are supposed to make all this work out of the box

One of the more demanding tasks for linux applications on windows is printing. The gEDA suite as presented by the installer bypasses this by using Ghostscript to produce PDF documents. The PDFs can be printed with native windows tools. There is a known blemish: On print, an error message pops up. However, the PDF document is produced as expected and placed on the desktop.
